London Elektricity

well your life's just a breeze in eternity,
why not take this one chance and come fly with me,
just this once,
just this second that soon will be gone,

if this second was your life,
what would you do?
If this second was your life,
I would love you,
if this second was your life,
would you love me?

A life is a collection of moments.  It's tempting to think that life is long and we'll have time to recover from missed opportunities.  While we may live long enough to rationalize away our missed opportunities, we'll never be able to un-miss a moment we let pass by.

My favorite time of year.

College football is here.  UGA lost their season opener for the first time in what seems like forever.  True, it's a rebuilding year for the Dawgs, but this game was winnable with the talent on the team.  Our defense played great.  The offense this year is obviously a huge falloff from last year with the rocket arm of Stafford and the pinball running of Moreno no longer in the arsenal.  I do like that we relied more on the running game, but it seemed like after Sturdivant went out of the game that the gaps just weren't forming.  Cox also had a pretty shaky game after the first drive.  His accuracy was off.  He made decent reads on the defense, but he just wasn't putting the ball in the right spot for the receivers.

My condolences to Oklahoma fans.  I hate to see a guy like Bradford go down with an injury in the first game of the season.  Especially since he gave up NFL riches to come back and try to win another championship.

Doorways and Devastation

Of what use is all the beauty in this world if we look away to lessen its power over us?

As she walked through the doorway her hair took flight in the vortex of cool air rushing out and hot air rushing in, reinforced by the air exiting my lungs as every atom of my being was drawn to her.  It was too late to look away.  Too late to catch my unhinging jaw.  My cool composure set ablaze by those glistening red lips; the space of my thoughts blanked white by the curves of her loaded little black dress.  As my eyes locked onto her's, I saw beauty's uncertain glance, shaken by all the eyes that ran away, with no idea of how many men she was destined to ruin, no idea that her beauty was not meant to serve men, but that men were meant to serve her beauty.  That is the use of all beautiful things in this world, to devastate us, to remind us of our weakness each time we look away.

Diamonds

If diamonds sparkle, it's with borrowed light.  A diamond in the dark, there is no shine, no shimmer.

If people are brilliant, it's with borrowed inspiration.  Without inspiration, we lack luster, we lack life.

- Took the motorcycle out for a quick local ride yesterday.  I'm pretty comfortable with street riding, so I decided to put some of the tips I picked up on sport riding to use.  Ass off the seat, using legs to shift weight from one peg to the other, keeping spine straight and shoulders in line with hips.  I gotta say, I was doing things totally wrong my first time up in the mountains.  I tried to turn mostly by leaning, without getting off the seat and shifting weight.  Just by shifting weight, you can turn the bike even if it's upright and pointed straight ahead.  The first few turns, I felt really awkward and the motion through the turns wasn't very fluid.  As I started to get more comfortable, it felt more and more like a dance.  Leading the bike through the curves with finesse and a gentle hand.  I've got a long way to go before I can really dance with my baby, but this weekend was my first taste.  I likey

- Got stuck in the office when a thunderstorm blew through downtown.  I kept waiting for the rain to pass b/c I had left my umbrella in the car.  After waiting for 30 minutes, I looked at the weather maps online and saw that the rain wasn't ending anytime soon.  I watch the windows for a lull in the downpour.  The sheets of rain gave away to a steady pour.  I rolled my jeans up over my calves and bolted out the door, flip flops and all.  I'm sure I looked ridiculous splashing down the long staircase and then up the short hill to my car.  Oh well, at least no worries about how to gracefully fold the umbrella and enter the car.

- A man is not truly judged on his prospects for success, but rather on the success he has realized.  It doesn't matter if you have the build to become a power lifter, it only matters whether you follow through and do it.  It doesn't matter if you're close to running a sub 6 min mile, it only matters if you do it.  I think a lot of people like to take comfort in the idea that they could do this or that if they really applied themselves.  It's all bull until you actually realize the greatness to which you aspire.  I need to remind myself of this constantly so I don't fall into habits of old.
